Pink, Me & The Roses

A decline: an old rock musician plays a concert of music that talks about music. Codice Ivan's first stage piece, winner of the Premio Scenario 2009.
“The scorpion, being carried across the river on the frog's back, stings the frog. The dying frog asks the scorpion: “Why did you sting me, knowing that this way we will both die?” The scorpion answers: “Because it is in my nature.””
Aesop
In Pink, Me & The Roses everything tends downwards, falls apart and pulls itself together again, in an apparently meaningless game. Where is the inside and where the outside? Where is the border between performer and character, between the show as a language and its destruction? Between the frog and the scorpion, between victory and defeat, between good and bad?
The piece is a series of objects: a wig, an armchair, a cardigan, some linoleum, a knife in a mouth, some PVC, a pallet truck, two heels, a light on two wheels, a vase of flowers. And above all a balloon that bursts. Everything moves in jerks and keeps jamming, in a device where mistakes are inevitable and accepted for what they are.
The performers stay inside the theatre by choice. The piece shows what happens behind the curtains and how the staging came into being: few objects, few colours, a small and clearly marked space, where one more pretence is attempted, but the deceit is no longer credible. Things and people keep breaking into small repeated deaths, falls, crashes and mistakes, and keep finding new possibilities. At the end, probably, everything has to begin again, from a reconquered honesty.
